My Personal Struggle

I have struggled with an unhealthy habit for quite a while. I needed a solution to this health problem. I really like sugar. I tend to ignore how excess sugar might be causing harm to my body, mind and emotions. This is because, for the most part I can’t see the negative effects. Some of you may have a hard time with other vices. The negative side effects you can’t see still take place whether you ignore them or not.

My band-aid of choice was to eat a nutrient dense salad, leaving just enough room for something sweet afterwards. I also exercise regularly so I would tell myself that the exercise made up for my daily sugar intake. Ahhh, the lies we tell ourselves!  Don’t get me wrong.  I’m all for having treats here and there.  I just know how addictive it can become.

One of My Solutions

For the last three weeks I’ve been taking part in a 30 Day Cleanse. I found that even healthy people need to cleanse. There are so many toxins stored in our bodies from air and water pollution as well as what’s found in the food we eat. I thought I got enough nutrients, vitamins and minerals in the meals I prepared.

I have rarely taken vitamins as I always thought I could get what my body needs through whole foods. Now I know that most of the food I eat is lacking in nutrients due to growing conditions and length of travel time to table. Also, much of the food I spend time preparing includes pesticides, antibiotics and hormones, to name a few.

So, Why Bother!?

The biggest reason I am taking part in this cleanse is because I’m a self care coach who values integrity. If I’m recommending that you take care of yourself in all ways-physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually-I better be an example!

Here’s what I’m experiencing…

  • I’m much more aware of my food choices and how much sugar I ate when I was bored, anxious or needed a ‘pick me up’
  • I have more mental clarity
  • I feel more relaxed/less stress in my body
  • Noticing I am more toned
  • I’m saving a lot of time due to drinking an undenatured, high protein shake once a day
  • I’m not craving sugar as much!
  • Gratitude that the pain I experience has considerably decreased

This is one of the things I’m doing to take care of my health. I believe that great health starts on the inside. For me, great health not only pertains to what you put in your mouth. It also has to do with improving the thoughts you allow in your mind, the words you allow yourself to speak and your boundaries.
