Over the years, I’ve had to grow up and take responsibility for my life.  I know I’m not the only one, that’s why I thought to share this personal story.  Let me share how I started to make changes happen in my life.

A Long, Long Time Ago…

I was around 16 years old, driving my moms car with my boyfriend by my side.  At the top of a hill (thankfully I could coast down the hill if needed) I ran out of gas.  This wasn’t the first time.  Because I was (and am) an eternal optimist, I would continually let the gas tank get crazy low and never worry about it.  I probably thought that it would ‘all work out.’  This day it did.

I coasted the car into a strangers driveway.  I then proceeded to ask the owner if he had any gas I could borrow.  He did and quickly topped me up.  I’m sure my boyfriend thought I’d finally have to suffer the consequences of not being better prepared!

Should You Coast Or Press The Gas Pedal?

Here’s my point though.  I can’t coast through life expecting my dreams to be handed to me on a silver platter.  I can’t depend on others to always pick up my slack and take responsibility for what’s my responsibility.

I’m so thankful that I have more balance now.  Not to say that I don’t let my gas tank get dangerously low still!  I do.  What I now believe though is that we need to really focus on what’s most important to us and aim for those things in order to realize them.  We need to be intentional.  Others won’t take that responsibility for us.  We need to take it for ourselves.

What dreams and goals do you want to take more responsibility for?  It’s worth the effort.  I can definately say that the process has been worth it for me!

Big hug,

Amy
