You know when all you feel like doing is eating bad food and giving up?  Do you feel you have to choose between being there for yourself/your family and being there for your work–and the people that are affected there?

Here are 7 things you can do for yourself if you’ve hit a wall (or don’t want to).

1-Leave your kids (or pets) with a babysitter

They won’t be traumatized and you will still have time with them after school or in the evening during the week.  Time for yourself is probably one of the biggest things you’ve been missing!  Give yourself the time to think without being interrupted.

2-Tell the laundry and dishes they can wait

When women are so emotionally spent that they can’t think straight, chores take on this ‘importance’ that simply doesn’t make sense.  If you’ve been expecting yourself to keep up with everything and everyone, you might consider giving yourself a break for a night, asking family members to help or getting take out.

3-Exercise whether you feel like it or not

When you fit exercise into the cracks of your life, typically no one dies, falls ill or misses an important appointment because you made your health a priority.  Get the blood pumping, give your mind a distraction, bring on the happy endorphins!!

4-Become Emotionally Aware

By calling a friend or being open to social get togethers this week  you will have an opportunity to talk.  My guess is you probably do a lot of listening–to your staff, coworkers, patients/clients/customers, children or spouse, and the list goes on!  Take the opportunity to express yourself and really let it out.  Personal clarity awaits!

5-Schedule a massage or do yoga

When people are leaning on you, you’re working in awkward positions or sitting/standing all day long, your body gets sore and that makes you tired.  Emotions can get high or simply used up when your body is done.  You’ll be glad you made the time to look after your body.  Your muscles and mind will thank you!

6-Allow yourself to focus on what you need, not on what others need.

Everyone else first right?  Because they’re more important right?  Eeerrch!!  Wrong.  Your needs, their needs, they’re all equally important.  If you ignore your own, how will you have any reserves to tend to the needs of others?

7-Find humour in it

When your day goes from exhausting to overwhelming and you’ve had enough, you respond with generous amounts of patience and self control, right?  Uh…  So what can you do instead of losing it?  Choose lightness and a chuckle over seriousness.  Remember that you always have a choice.
