The Knowing-Doing Gap: How To Motivate Yourself To Take Action
Positive thinking and dreaming of the future, though helpful, can be a hindrance. Don’t expect positive thinking to replace positive action. Dreamers come up with some pretty awesome, creative ideas but if there is no action linked to those dreams, don’t expect much to happen.
When you think positively but never take action you start feeling frustrated and deflated due to unmet goals. Life loses its luster when you don’t take action in alignment with your priorities and passions!
Have you ever wanted to make changes but something holds you back from taking action?
How long have you wanted to improve your health, become more productive or make more time to have fun with your family?
This challenge, lack of motivation, is one that I help clients address and overcome on a daily basis.
If you’re feeling frustrated because you want to make changes (you’ve wanted to for the last 5 years) but just don’t know where to start, you’re in the right place! Let me show you how to get motivated and stay motivated. This is an area that I have personally worked quite hard on so the ideas I’ll share below are tried, tested and proven by clients and yours truly.
How To Motivate Yourself To Take Action
Face Your Fear –
Fear of the unknown, of not knowing all the details before you make your move, of being judged, of missing out. Whatever your fear is, you’ll need to stop letting it control your decisions or you’ll stay where you’ve been for longer than you want.
Stop Letting Yourself Off The Hook
Your job is to catch yourself justifiying, making excuses or blaming instead of taking action. No was ever motivated by making excuses. If you know what you want to do, justifying why you’re not taking action will NOT motivate you. Stop doing these three things and watch yourself DO more.
Accept the Effort Required
Work takes work, but it can still be fun or enjoyable. I used to be more committed to being comfortable than I was to achieving my goals. Make personal success your goal and constant motivator, knowing that it will take a lot of hard work at times. THEN you will find satisfaction and comfort….when you get out of your comfort zone.

Great article Amy!
An excellent reminder that there will be good times and tough times when striving to reach goals.
I see many entrepreneurs who experience days when they just want to quit it all.
When in reality, then need to just keep moving onwards.
