Do you feel like you need a vacation? Taking a vacation once, even twice a year just isn’t cutting it anymore? I’m right there with you. Busy schedules, long work hours and high personal expectations take their toll on your physical and mental health. Unless you learn how to re-energize daily it’s likely that you will become more irritable and short tempered, compromise your immunity and decrease your energy.
One of our most serious needs in life is pure rest. We need to have fun and be refreshed. If it’s difficult for you to picture taking a few days off in the near future, learning how to rest in between longer vacations will help you remain sain.
We all want to feel energetic so we can be productive at work and enjoy life. None of us want to experience the negative side effects of overworking so let’s combat them before they take their toll. For those of you who have already crashed and burned due to exhaustion, keep reading so you can get back up and prepare before next time hits.
It takes guts to disconnect and distance yourself from the overwhelming needs out there. Though, with practice we can all learn to seize and capture moments of rest on a daily basis. I call them refresh-(mo)-ments.
- Planning an impromptu suprise for my husband or friends.
- Making myself a sweet coffee and sitting down with a good book.
- Picking blackberries in the heat of the summer.
These are a few examples of refresh-(mo)-ments that work for me.
What would your example of a Refresh-(mo)-ment be? Try to think of five ways to make you laugh or drop your shoulders. Before you collapse due to never leaving your workplace, seize the moment and go have some fun. Your family, clients and co-workers will thank you for it!
Share this with someone else who needs to rest and please do leave your idea of a great Refresh-(mo)-ment below!

My refresh-mo-ment is riding my horse without a specific task that needs to be done. Another is when my mom and I are hunting for antiques. I enjoy the time spent with her and the treasures we find.
Great post 🙂
Ruby, isn’t it fun to focus on what you love. So freeing…It makes us so happy and fulfilled. Thanks for commenting, Amy
Taking an hour to read and enjoy a coffee or even a nice tall glass of ice-water is my favorite. Consciously un-plugging from my phone and computer is becoming easier to do too.
Hi Charlene,
Yes, we DO need to consciously un-plug from our everyday life. Sometimes it’s an act that takes mental strength! An hour spent enjoying something out of your routine is SO refreshing…Amy
My way to relax is usually with a book or a video game, but my best when is when I get to game with my friends all day once a month. We all just relax, unplug and submerge ourselves into another world. Keeps me sane.
Sounds like fun Heather! And great ways to ‘unplug’ from everyday life. xo Amy
As soon as I saw the ‘mo’ ment I thought of Monique (mo). I know she is a breath of fresh air for you Amy!
