Are their areas in your life that you would love to change if you could? Ha! Who am I kidding! Of course, we ALL have areas, big or small, that we would change. We can become so frustrated when time and time again we are not achieving the goal we have in mind. “Why does this pattern keep emerging?” we think. “Why am I walking in circles?” “Why does nothing seem to work to change this habit?”
Most of us have never given much thought to our underlying beliefs. …those preconceived notions within us. They have more power over us than we’re aware of. As their name portrays, they lay under the surface of who we are. Take this belief for example, “I believe I’m capable of accomplishing what needs to get done today”. If this is my belief, then I will start my day on a good note. I’m believing in myself and my abilities, therefore I will act accordingly. I will make the effort needed, maybe spend the extra time needed to accomplish those “things” I don’t particularly like to do. On the flip side, say I believed this, “I really lack in a lot of areas and am not capable of accomplishing anything of worth”. My self esteem would lower and I would probably not aim at such high goals throughout my day…or life
Our underlying beliefs are powerful. They are very closely related to our values and actions. We start talking about these things and really we’re talking about what we’re truly made of. Our lives are built from within, not without. We need to pay attention to what’s going on inside of us and not let other people decide for us who we will be and how we will live. If you’re curious why that irrating pattern in your life just won’t change, take a look at what underlying belief you have about the situation and consider a need for adjustment!
