When my focus decreases I know my thought life needs to be addressed.
In the past I can pinpoint times in my life when I lost my focus. At those times I realized that I was letting doubts and negative thoughts cloud my ability to focus. Once I addressed the belief and proactively changed my habits, I was able to get back in the game and make huge progress.
Addressing your thought life is the first strategy I’ll share with you to increase your ability to focus.
Thoughts that diminish your ability to focus:
I can’t make the money I want
I don’t have the time to complete my goals
I don’t have the support I need to accomplish my goals
I can’t handle this workload
My dreams are too big
People will think I’m crazy
Basically, any thought that is based in fear, worry or anxiety or leaves you feeling incapable will diminish your ability to focus.
Your thoughts impact your emotional state. If you’re feeling anything like the examples below, take note.
You’re irritated and distracted
You lack your usual planning and preparation Your thoughts are disorganized
You’re lacking confidence and joy
Ask yourself, “What would I need to believe to feel unfocused?” If you believe your efforts won’t pay off, you won’t focus on the work that needs to be done. If you believe you can’t handle your workload, you’ll put yourself in a reactive state where every task seems urgent and you stop focusing on high value tasks .
Next week I’ll be sharing the second strategy of three to increase your ability to focus. Keep your eyes open for this strategy. Your focus will soar when you apply it!
In what area of your life would you like to increase your focus? Would it be your personal or professional life? Which would benefit from an increased ability to focus?
