How do you heal damaged self esteem? I have a few strategies that are simple and powerful.
Define Yourself
-What happened can’t be changed but your perception of it can. You are in control of the headlines of your life. What headline will you create for your life?
“Woman capsizes and sinks ship (yet again)” or “Woman overcomes the storm” “Failure never learns from her lessons” or “Woman proclaims she’s a work in progress”
If you love Spiritual things, you can watch this video on “Making Headlines” by pastor Steven Furtick. It’s a GREAT and POWERFUL video.
Adopt a Growth Mindset
In her book, Mindset, Stanford University Psychologist Carol Dweck says there are two main mindsets, “fixed” and “growth.” She says you can create a love of learning and therefore stop relying on the praise of others to pump up your self esteem.
A growth mindset gives you the freedom to believe that you can learn and grow from the past. You can change as a person and become the woman or man you want to be. Instead of labelling yourself (and damaging your self esteem) after an event happens, choose to confront the challenge and keep working on yourself.
Switch your focus. It will change how you lead your life!
With Love,
Amy
