I’ve taken to madly hacking away at my magnificent yellow rose bush instead of “lightly” pruning it. Many old flowers were cut and fell to the ground. They started to make a carpet at my feet, very pretty. I filled vases to overflowing with the blossoms. There was too many blossoms past their prime and I needed to make room for the newer, brighter buds. The weight of the flowers was weighing the tree down….I started comparing myself to the bush…
Each of us has so many beautiful aspects. We may flourish in many different ways…but, we may (unbeknownst to us) be held back from the best that is out there for us if we aren’t “pruned”. Sometimes the trimming needs to take place inside of us, in our character. Sometimes we may need to let go of a relationship or something that is weighing down our daily load of reponsibilities (even if it’s something we enjoy). There’s a season for everything in our lives right? I definately admired the roses that lay on the ground. They were still pretty. I enjoy them in front of me in their vase. But when I looked up at the bush, I couldn’t stop smiling. It looked fresh, bright and alive. It now had room to grow and grow it will. I know from experience that it’s hard to let go of something that’s very good. Regardless, when we are shown what our trade in is, the BEST for us, for right now, our perspective and vision can grow. We need to trust that the hands that are pruning us know what they’re doing and that the pruning is happening so that we can grow and produce GREAT things with our lives.
