If negative self talk is holding you back from caring for yourself and those around you, this article is for you. I find most women (and some of you men) don’t take enough time for themselves. When you take time out for yourself you can become more self aware and in so doing, change the negative habits within yourself. Don’t give your thoughts the right to threaten your health on a mental, physical or emotional level. Here are five reasons why it is so important to take control of your thoughts.
1. Increases Confidence and Peace
Allowing your thoughts to run rampant instead of taking them captive means you are putting yourself at risk of low self esteem and depression. You want to feel content and joyful on the inside. You want to feel valuable no matter what. When you entertain thoughts like “I’m never enough. I have to… I should…” you will believe them. Start acting the way you want to think. This will help you believe the truth about yourself and life.
2. Boosts Productivity
Focusing on what’s working instead of where you feel you are lacking will actually improve your productivity. By doing this you are not ignoring what still needs work, you are practicing self-acknowledgement. Give yourself a pat on the back.
3. Fear Will Lose its Grasp on You
When you address the thoughts you struggle with you pose a threat to them!! Consider that now might be the time to wage war inside that brain of yours. Instead of feeling obligated to please everyone around you, consider how it would make you feel to create a life YOU would like. What an idea! If the thought of making your needs a priority is followed by copious amounts of guilt, here is my suggestion. What would you need to start thinking in order for you to create more healthy boundaries? Take a minute (max two is all you’ll need) and think about that. Write it down.
4. Enables You to Regain Work/Life Balance
If you think “I’m busy” most of the time (and I know you are!) you may tend to feel overwhelmed. Focus on what you’re thankful for and where you could use a little help. Focus on the solution to your challenge. This type of thinking reminds you of everything you’ve been blessed with and enables you to attain the balance you want.
5. Allows For Personal and Professional Relationship Growth
Focus on yourself because you can’t change anyone else. You DO have control over the areas in your own life that need tweaking. If your high standards are causing conflict at home and at work you may consider adopting a more realistic expectation of yourself. You may be able to manage yet one more task (that strips you of how you really want to be spending your time) but most likely that decision will have negative effects on how well you are able to care for your patients, clients and family members. Take care of yourself (and your thought life) so you can take care of others more fully-without resentment.
How has changing the way you think had a positive impact on your life? I’d like to know! Leave a comment below and like or share this post.
Keep Shining!
